In Memoriam

Dear UC Davis Staff,

It is with great sorrow that Staff Assembly shares some truly heartbreaking news. Dan Ransom, the IT Director for Application Development at the School of Veterinary Medicine and 2023-24 Staff Assembly Chair, has unexpectedly passed away after dealing with a brief illness. In his roles as IT Director and Chair of Staff Assembly, Dan's contributions to the university's mission will forever be a part of his legacy. He was incredibly passionate about making UC Davis a community where every staff member felt welcome and could succeed. He was a remarkable leader, mentor, and colleague, and his monumental contributions to UC Davis and the Staff Assembly will continue to impact and inspire our resilient community. Dan is survived by his wife Judy and their two children, Zach and Julian. The family has set up a Meal Train and we would strongly encourage you to contribute if you are able. The family plans to have a memorial service, and details will be shared when they are available. Our heart goes out to his family, loved ones, and all affected by this tremendous loss.

The Celebration of Life for Dan Ransom will be Saturday 8/12/24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wheatland Community Center, 101 C Street, Wheatland, CA.  Lunch will be served at noon. His family has requested assistance with providing drinks for the event, please consider assisting with coordination here. 

 

Additionally, the family is encouraging folks to speak at the service. If you have a memory or story of how Dan influenced you or impacted your life, they would love to hear. From Dan’s family: “As you know, Dan was not one to ‘toot’ his own horn, nor did he boast about his job, it just wasn’t in his nature. It is important to Judy and her boys to hear about the impact he made on you, the staff, and the University as a whole.”
