2015 Thank Goodness for Staff Celebration!

35th Annual TGFS Picnic
Thursday May 7, 2015  |  11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Russell Field, Davis Campus

Thank Goodness for Staff is a springtime celebration organized by UC Davis Staff Assembly in honor of all UC Davis staff members.

The signature event is the Annual Thank Goodness for Staff (TGFS) picnic and celebration which is attended by over 5,000 UC Davis staff members. Next year marks our 35th year celebrating the hard work and contributions of UC Davis staff and we invite you to join in the fun. 

Next year's festivities will include exciting contests like Gunrock Bingo, the Guess the Weight photo contest and the TGFS 2016 Logo contest. In addition to a delicious lunch, staff will be treated to goodies, quirky photo opps, prize drawings, freebies and other services at the various on and off-campus booths in our vendor showcase. Best of all, it’s all free. Isn’t it great to be UC Davis staff!

During the weeks preceding the picnic, staff are encouraged to participate in many recreation activities including bowling, volleyball, golf and a fun run/walk – all organized by TGFS partner Campus Recreation and Unions.

In late May, staff will also be celebrated and honored at the Citations for Excellence and Staff & Staff Dependent Scholarship award ceremony held at Gunrock Pub.

A couple things to note about the TGFS event:

  • Tickets are for meals only. Staff are welcome to attend the event without a meal ticket.
  • TGFS is for staff only and not intended for the families and friends of staff.
  • Animals are not allowed at TGFS, except in the case of service animals.   

What to bring to TGFS:

  • A great attitude
  • Your meal ticket
  • Sunblock – because we’ve ordered up sunshine
  • A folding chair, blankets, or something comfortable to relax on
  • Pop-up tent or beach umbrella  to share shade (ensure you have the equipment to properly stake/anchor your shade)
  • Reusable mug for refreshments
  • Reusable bag for vendor giveaways

2015 TGFS Caterer and Menu

In late 2014, the Thank Goodness for Staff planning committee will release a request for proposals to potential event caterers. A tasting committee will evaluate the food and menus proposed by each caterer, as well as their ability to successfully manage an event of this size. We will post the menu here once it's been finalized! Rest assured we'll make every attempt to provide tasty vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

2015 TGFS Logo Contest

Congratulations to Tawny LaBarbera, Information Technology Services, who for the second year in a row has designed the winning logo for TGFS. Nearly 350 people cast a vote for their favorite logo design which will be used on all things TGFS in 2015. We'll start soliciting designs for the 2016 TGFS Logo Contest in early 2015.

Guess the Weight and Gunrock Bingo Winners

Both winners received two, 2-day passes to Disneyland and a hotel stay, compliments of Get Away Today.

Linda Hirst with the Primate Center guessed the weight closest to the actual poundage of all people, mascots and vehicles in our Guess the Weight contest. The nearly 400 entries ranged from 149 pounds to 15,000,000 pounds, but Linda's guess of 14,286 pounds was closest to the actual combined weight of 14,331 pounds.
